Providence Christian School has been purchasing residential lots around their property since 2023 and Save Elm Thicket is expecting them to submit a rezoning plan with the city within the next year.
The image above shows what they proposed at several meetings in December 2024. The plan involved re-routing Calliet St. around the property and merging it with Morton St. on the east side. They also proposed a two-level, 200-space underground parking garage where their current east-side parking lot is located and then put a new school building (up to 70,000 sq. ft.) on top of that to add more classroom space and increase enrollment.
School officials claim they do not have a desire to expand to a full high school like they wanted to do in 2004 (they lost that zoning case), but did not fully answer questions as to why they really need that many parking spaces for an elementary school. Their reasoning is to have extra parking for school special events.
At the December 2025 meetings, neighbors voiced opposition to this plan and the school officials said they would come back with a new proposal. No information has been provided by the school since those meetings.

Here you will find the PD67 Ordinance and the Land Use Map that covers the Elm Thicket/Northpark Neighborhood. The new zoning went into effect October 12, 2022, when it passed unanimously by the Dallas City Council. The updated zoning limits new construction to a 30' maximum height, a 40% maximum lot coverage, and no more than 10% of the roof area above 20' can be anything other than hip/gable construction. This zoning was intended to maintain the style and character of this historic neighborhood.
